The UN General Assembly meeting ended on September 26 but the president never returned home.
His absence has also sparked off rumors regarding his health and whether he was undergoing specialized treatment in the US.
In 2012, President Bingu wa Mutharika, the current president’s brother, died while receiving treatment in South Africa.
Worried and anxious Malawians took to social media with the hashtag #BringBackMutharika with the hope of trying to find their president.
Hopefully our president is safe and healthy. Please world, help us bringing back our president #BringBackMutharika
