Police have gathered more details from an incidence where a GSU officer killed his alleged girlfriend on Friday at the Recce Headquarters in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
According to investigations, the US-trained officer, Kennedy Mwarabu, sent a message to his wife at 7:15am and told her to call his colleagues at 10am and find out what would have happened by then.
He then shot Nthenya Katheka using an M16 rifle 53 times at around 9:15am before turning the gun on himself.
It was further revealed that Mwarabu could have been angered after the girlfriend informed him of her intention to quit the relationship and get married to someone else.
It was also reported that the two had quarrelled over Sh420,000 that Katheka had apparently obtained from the officer.
Sources close to the deceased also indicated that Katheka had been living with the GSU officer for three months after he returned from the US.
His colleagues stated that after hearing the gunshots, they went to his house and pleaded with him to surrender but he declined and killed himself. Mwarabu had been assigned to work at JKIA on the fateful day but failed to show up.
