Shocking: Woman denies stealing baby’s umbilical cord

A woman is involved in a court battle with her friend’s husband after allegedly being accused of stealing an umbilical cord.
Mary Wanyonyi has accused Robert Yiga Ndung’u of attacking her after his wife accused her of stealing their child’s umbilical cord on September 27 within Buru Buru area, according to court documents.
Ndung’u and his wife were involved in a domestic tiff on September 19 forcing her to flee and live with Mary, a close friend and neighbour, but returned to her hubby after making up. Ndungu’s wife later accused Mary of stealing her baby’s umbilical cord after she allegedly found it missing from her travelling bag.

A heated exchange is said to have ensued before Ndung’u arrived, and threatened to gorge out Mary’s eyes with a kitchen knife. It is alleged that he beat up Mary and hit her with a heavy padlock in the head.

Ndung’u is said to have attempted to force her to breastfeed one of his children, but Mary refused and shouted for help. She later reported the matter to police leading to Ndungu’s arrest. Ndung’u denied the charge and was set free on a Sh10,000 bail.
